AFMA®, formerly known as the American Film Marketing Association, is the trade association for the independent film and television industry. AFMA's global membership distributes (and often produces) the films and programs made apart from the seven major studios. AFMA members generate more than $4 billion annually in worldwide distribution revenues. 

AFMA produces the American Film Market (AFM), the largest motion picture trade event in the world. Unlike a film festival, the AFM is a marketplace where over $500 million in production and distribution deals are closed annually. AFMA represents more than 170 member companies from 16 countries, including two dozen financial institutions. Collectively, its members produce more than 350 independent films and countless hours of television programming each year and generate more than $4 billion in distribution revenues annually.  

Among AFMA's Member companies are Artisan, Discovery Communications, Franchise Pictures, Focus, Intermedia, Lions Gate, MDP Worldwide, Miramax and New Line. Since 1980, more than fifty percent of the world's critically acclaimed films were produced or licensed globally by AFMA member companies. They include Gandhi, Amadeus, Platoon, The Last Emperor, Driving Miss Daisy, Dances With Wolves, Silence of the Lambs, Braveheart, The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love and Chicago, each of which won the "Best Picture" Academy Award(tm). 

AFMA is a non-profit association whose mission is to provide the independent film and television industry with high-quality market-oriented services and worldwide representation. As the spokesperson for the worldwide independent film and television industry, AFMA and London-based AFMA Europe actively lobby the United States and European governments and the international organizations on measures that impact production and distribution.
